JUDITH LIGHT TO STAR IN NEW CBS COMEDY FROM COLUMBIA PICTURES TELEVISION
LOS ANGELES, March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Emmy Award-winner Judith Light has been signed to star in "Letting Go," a new multi-camera tape comedy series for CBS from Columbia Pictures Television, created, written and executive produced by Gina Wendkos.
CBS has ordered six episodes of "Letting Go," the story of Caryl Wiler, a New York romance novelist and divorced mother of three, coping with life in the '90s with the help of her psychiatrist mother.
Light may best be known to viewers as Angela Bower on ABC's "Who's the Boss?", which is soon to wrap its eighth season. She recently starred in the telefilm "Wife, Mother, Murderer: The Marie Hilley Story" for ABC. Light's other television movies include "Dangerous Affection," "The Ryan White Story," "My Boyfriend's Back" and "In Defense of a Married Man."
For five years Light was on the daytime drama "One Life to Live." An audition to understudy turned into an offer to play the role of Karen Wolek, which earned her two Emmy Awards as Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Series.
Prior to the start of her television career, Light spent several years in the theater -- both on the New York stage and in regional companies.
"We are thrilled to have signed Judith to this project," said Scott Siegler, president, CPT. "She is part of our Columbia family, always the consummate professional and we look forward to continuing our long, happy association with her."
Light is represented by the TAO Management team of Jonathan Stoller and Herb Hamsher, and by Sylvia Gold and the ICM Agency.
A prolific playwright as well as a writer for television and feature films, Wendkos' credits include "Wiseguy," "Crime Story," "Hooperman," "My Two Dads," "Sugar & Spice," "Married People" and "Sibs." Her theater credits, many for directing as well as writing, include "Four Corners," "Southern Comfort," "Boys & Girls/Men & Women," "Personality" and "Dinosaurs."
Production on the pilot is slated to begin mid-April at Sunset-Gower Studios in Hollywood.
Columbia Pictures Television is a Sony Pictures Entertainment company.
