JUDGES ACT FAST IN ELECTION FILINGS.

Most of the nine Ventura County judges up for re-election this year moved quickly Monday to file a declaration of intention to run in the June 2 primary election.

On the first day to file such declarations, seven of the judges personally came to the county elections office to submit paperwork and pay a nonrefundable filing fee of $1,073.90 for a Superior Court seat and $980.70 for a Municipal Court seat, an elections official said.

Candidates have until Feb. 4 to declare an intention to run.

Bradley, 56, has not ruled out a run for re-election, but an attorney representing him has said the judge's sole concern now is overcoming alcoholism alcoholism, disease characterized by impaired control over the consumption of alcoholic beverages. Alcoholism is a serious problem worldwide; in the United States the wide availability of alcoholic beverages makes alcohol the most accessible drug, and alcoholism is .

Two challengers to Bradley formally joined the race Monday - Assistant District Attorney Kevin J. McGee and Westlake Village family law attorney Cathleen J. Drury, both Newbury Park residents.

Also listed in the race, although not formally declared, is Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Deputy District Attorney Jeffrey McGrath, a Moorpark resident who is trying to gather enough signatures to avoid paying the filing fee.
