1 City (1990 pop. 148,134), Maricopa co., S central Ariz., adjacent to Phoenix; inc. 1910. It is located in a rich agricultural region irrigated by the Salt River project. Glendale has become one of the fastest-growing U.S.
schools but live in La Canada Flintridge have claimed a small victory in a six-year campaign to enroll the students in their home city.

Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Superior Court Judge George Schiavelli earlier this week agreed to hold a hearing July 23 on the transfer proposal, the subject of a legal fight since 1991.

``It's very good news,'' said Deborah Orlik, a La Canada attorney representing the families in the western part of La Canada Flintridge.

Because of the way boundaries were drawn, about 1,000 families live in La Canada Flintridge and in the Glendale Unified School District The Glendale Unified School District is a school district based in Glendale, California, United States.

The school district serves the city of Glendale, portions of the city of La CaƱada and the unincorporated communities of Montrose and La Crescenta.
.

The school boundaries predate the incorporation of La Canada Flintridge. Parents argue it is hard for their children to fit into the La Canada Flintridge community when they attend schools elsewhere.

``We don't feel like we are a part of La Canada Flintridge because everything revolves around the schools and we are not in the schools,'' said Cindy Bengtson, whose child will enter kindergarten kindergarten [Ger.,=garden of children], system of preschool education. Friedrich Froebel designed (1837) the kindergarten to provide an educational situation less formal than that of the elementary school but one in which children's creative play instincts would be  in Glendale in the fall. ``And we don't feel like we are a part of Glendale because we don't live there.''

Glendale school officials have opposed the transfer, saying it could set a bad precedent as many school districts statewide cross over city lines.

``The residents of La Canada Flintridge, beyond the community identity issue, want the status of going to La Canada Flintridge schools,'' said Glendale school spokesman Vic Pallos.

The Glendale district is nearly 10 times larger than the La Canada Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts.  and is also more ethnically diverse.

If the transfer were to happen, Pallos said Glendale homeowners would also face a greater burden when paying back a $186 million bond for school facilities as Glendale Unified would lose a group of property owners.

Bengtson said that La Canada Flintridge parents have no concerns about the quality of Glendale schools, adding that both districts offer quality educations.

But Orlik said La Canada Flintridge high school-level students on average reported better scores on college entrance exams Noun 1. entrance exam - examination to determine a candidate's preparation for a course of studies

``Whether that is of any concern to any parents, I really can't say,'' Orlik said.
