 and Annie Elberts of Shadow Hills was celebrated Jan. 17 with a buffet luncheon at Grace Community Church in Sun Valley. It was attended by 150 friends and relatives, some from as far away as the Netherlands.

The event was a gift from their son Byron and daughter-in-law Kathy of Sylmar; daughter Vonceil and son-in-law Frank Allford of Sunland; and David Chun, a Korean War Korean War, conflict between Communist and non-Communist forces in Korea from June 25, 1950, to July 27, 1953. At the end of World War II, Korea was divided at the 38th parallel into Soviet (North Korean) and U.S. (South Korean) zones of occupation.  orphan orphan: see adoption; foundling hospital; guardian and ward.

Annie was 15 and Hank 17 when they met in 1940 in Utrecht, Holland, during the German occupation. Hank was driving a three-wheeled milk cart when he saw Annie cleaning in a bakery. Soon they were bicycling together while holding hands and dreaming of the future, although chaperoned by Annie's brother Chiel. Hank, however, was taken to Germany, and it was his love of Annie that helped him survive 2-1/2 years there as a forced laborer until liberation by the Allies in 1945.

The couple married on Jan. 19, 1948, and a year later, they emigrated to the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. . They came to Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  and learned English in night school.

Hank worked as a superintendent for Burton Michelson Construction for 32 years.

The couple are active members of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, where Hank sings in the choir and Annie has diapered and baby-sat more than 20,000 babies in the church nursery over the past 36 years.
