JUBILEES: WEBER FETE GOLDEN SURPRISE.Byline: - Mary Vose On July 11, 1999, Joe and Christine Weber of Woodland Hills walked into the Woodland Hills Christian Church to attend a church night dinner. To their great surprise, the dinner turned out to be a celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary. The event, a gift from their four children - daughter, Jeri L. DeSimone of Chatsworth; and sons, Bruce of Silver Spring, Md; Dale of Reno, Nev., and Kirk of Woodland Hills - was enjoyed by 120 family members, friends and co-workers who came from near and far. Joe served in the Navy from 1944-46, attended the University of Southern California The U.S. News & World Report ranked USC 27th among all universities in the United States in its 2008 ranking of "America's Best Colleges", also designating it as one of the "most selective universities" for admitting 8,634 of the almost 34,000 who applied for freshman admission from 1946-48 and became a Los Angeles city firefighter in 1948. He was promoted to battalion chief in 1967 and retired in 1979 after 31 years of service. For the past 17 years, he has taught a two-week class, five times a year, on man-made and natural disasters at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Md. Christine has been an avid quilter for the past 30 years - winning several blue ribbons blue ribbon denotes highest honor. County Fair) is an annual event held in the Fairplex in Pomona, California, held every September. It is a carnival with rides, merchants, food vendors, cooking contests, and livestock. The 2007 L.A. in Pomona - and enjoys sewing and collecting antique sewing items. The Webers live in the house that Joe (with the help of his brothers and friends) built in 1955. Joe serves as property chairman and elder and Christine as deaconess dea·con·ess n. 1. A Protestant woman who assists the minister in various functions. 2.
