Herb and Dorothy Rennpferd of Chatsworth celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary while aboard a seven-day cruise to Alaska, followed by a three-day stay in Victoria, British Columbia British Columbia, province (2001 pop. 3,907,738), 366,255 sq mi (948,600 sq km), including 6,976 sq mi (18,068 sq km) of water surface, W Canada. . The Rennpferd's son Keith and daughter-in-law Debbi of Camarillo and son Gary of Chatsworth accompanied them on the cruise.

The two were both born and raised in Milwaukee. They attended the same high school but didn't know one other.

During World War II, Herb was in the U.S. Army Air Corps for three years, serving in the China-Burma-India area for two of them. After his discharge, he and Dorothy were introduced by their parents, who were friends.

Bowling and gardening are their hobbies, but traveling is their love. In 1985, they traveled by car for five weeks throughout Europe; after they both retired, they drove through every state in the U.S. twice. They have also been to Australia and New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. Their special love, however, is cruises, and in addition to their recent Alaskan cruise, they've been, on one cruise to the Mediterranean, three to the Caribbean and one to Mexico.
