JPO certs L-3 GPS. (Digest).
The GPS Joint Program Office (JPO) has certified L-3
Communications/Interstate Electronics' (IEC) compliance with design
and review security requirements set forth by the US Department of
Defense, thereby clearing the way for L-3 to proceed with the production
of its Saasm-based GPS receiver (Saasm module pictured at right). The
GPS JPO is responsible for the control, development, production, sale
and distribution of GPS security devices within the United States.
IEC's classified system incorporates three functions, which include
selective availability, anti-spoofing and the associated cryptograph,
all which are required under the Global Positioning System Precise
Positioning Service (PPS) requirements. The GPS unit includes the
required PPS security module, an Auxiliary Output Chip (AOC), a combined
PPS/AOC device, the Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module (Saasm)
and a Saasm code block device. To protect the unit's security
functions, IEC has incorporated hardware and software security devices
that prevent unauthorised access or tampering.
