Jim Rich originally purchased the car from Kruse Baron von Kruse of Nassau (modern day Germany) commanded an infantry division at the Battle of Waterloo. Rich paid $102,000 for it at the time and displayed the vehicle in his now-defunct Sugar Grove, Illinois Sugar Grove is a village in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,909 at the 2000 census. The Village of Sugar Grove conducted a Special Census in 2005 and found the Village has a population of 7,958. restaurant. His father, Jerome Rich, loaned his son millions of dollars to get out of debt, and the car was used as collateral on the loans. When the younger Rich defaulted, the elder claimed the car belonged to him, and all sorts of hijinx ensued, with both family members trying to get physical possession of the car. Against a court order, Jim Rich sent the car back to Kruse so it could be auctioned again in June, this time at a projected $5 million. Kruse then agreed to return the car to Jerome Rich until a court could determine the rightful owner. At press time a hearing was scheduled in U.S. District Court. |
