JOSTENS SPONSORS 1993 SPECIAL OLYMPICS WORLD WINTER GAMES; COMPANY SELECTED AS OFFICIAL SUPPLIER OF AWARDS/MERCHANDISE

MINNEAPOLIS, March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Jostens (NYSE: JOS) is the official supplier of awards and merchandise for the 1993 Special Olympics World Winter Games March 20-27 in Austria -- the largest winter sporting event anywhere in the world during 1993.
Jostens' awards affiliate, Midwest Trophy in Del City, Okla., will donate 2,500 medals and ribbons and hundreds of placement ribbons for the first Special Olympics World Winter Games ever held outside the United States.
"As the official supplier of awards and merchandise for Special Olympics International (SOI) and for these games, we are proud to share in the victories of Special Olympians and wish then the best in achieving their goals and dreams," said Roger Mashore, vice president for Jostens/Midwest Trophy.
More than 1,600 athletes from 65 countries -- approximately 150 from the United States -- will converge on the Austrian alpine skiing village of Schladming and the historic city of Salzburg, renowned for its culture and as the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Athletes will compete in five official winter sports: alpine skiing, cross country skiing, speed skating, figure skating and floor hockey.
The customized medals include the official 1993 games logo on the front with the words "Special Olympics 1993" and "Welt Winterspiele," the German translation of the games. On the back is the Special Olympics logo and the words "Skill," "Courage," "Sharing" and "Joy," as well as the names of the host cities "Salzburg and Schladming, Austria."
Companies sr?ing the fifth Special Olympics World Winter Games, besides Jostens, include Adidas AG, Coca-Cola Company, Dollar Rent-A- Car, Eastman Kodak Company, IBM, M&M/Mars and Motel 6.
Jostens/Midwest Trophy also is producing all souvenir merchandise for the games, including T-shirts, hats, sweatshirts, sunglasses, mugs, fanny packs, squeeze bottles, commemorative pins and more.
Five employees from Jostens/Midwest Trophy are in Austria for the Special Olympics World Winter Games, working with thousands of volunteers. They prepared for the three-week adventure by learning about international banking, Austrian vendor licensing policies and even taking German classes for eight weeks.
The 1993 World Winter Games marks the fourth consecutive International Special Olympics in which Jostens has been involved. Jostens also was the official awards supplier for the 1987 Summer Games in South Bend, Ind.; 1989 Winter Games in Reno, Nev., and Lake Tahoe, Calif.; and 1991 Summer Games in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn.
Jostens/Midwest Trophy signed a four-year contract with SOI in April 1992 to be its official awards supplier on a state-by-state basis. The company provides more than 500,000 awards annually to Special Olympics chapters across the country and will be the official awards supplier for the July 1995 International Special Olympics Summer Games in Hartford, Conn.
Jostens, based in Minneapolis, is a leading provider of products and services for the youth, education, sports award and recognition markets. Jostens is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "JOS" and last year reported sales of $924 million.
