JOHNSON CONTROLS NAMES JOHNSTON HEAD OF BATTERY GROUP

 MILWAUKEE, June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Johnson Controls Inc. (NYSE: JCI) today announced the election of Michael F. Johnston as vice president and general manager of its battery group. The announcement was made by James H. Keyes, chairman and chief executive officer of the Milwaukee- based company.
 Johnston, 46, has been vice president and general manager of the battery group's Starting, Lighting and Ignition Division since 1991. He was vice president and general manager of the group's Specialty Battery Division from 1989 until 1991. Before joining the company, he served in executive-level positions with Microdot Inc. for 11 years.
 He holds a MBA from Michigan State University and a BS in industrial management from Lowell University.
 In his new position, Johnston reports to John M. Barth, executive vice president.
 Johnston succeeds J. William Horton, who has headed the company's battery group since 1987. Horton is retiring, but will serve in a consulting capacity beyond his retirement date.
