JOHN R. WOODS JOINS UL AS CANADIAN REPRESENTATIVE

 NORTHBROOK, Ill. Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) announces that John R. Woods has joined UL as Executive Liaison -- Canadian Affairs.
 Woods will be assisting UL in coordinating UL activities within the Canadian Safety System. He will be working with government officials, manufacturers and jurisdictional authorities in Canada and providing guidance on matters relating to product safety certification in Canada. In conjunction with its October 1992 accreditation as a Certification Organization (CO) by the Standards Council of Canada, UL will be actively participating in the Canadian Safety System.
 UL President Tom Castino welcomes the opportunity for building relationships with key parties in Canada. "With John's guidance in Canada, and other initiatives, we will be positioned to respond to the concerns of the members of the Canadian Safety System, while still working to provide the safety certifications manufacturers need for both the U.S. and Canada."
 Woods is the former executive director of the Standards Council of Canada, where he served for 10 years. Previous to that, he served for 10 years as chairman and chief executive officer of Scolopax Limited. Woods has extensive executive and management experience, and served in the 2nd Royal Canadian Regiment and 25th Canadian Infantry Brigade Group during the Korean War.
 Woods will be based in the Ottawa area.
