JOHN HOLLIMAN TO ADDRESS ANNUAL GREEN EYESHADE AWARDS BANQUET
ATLANTA, Dec. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Cable News Network's (CNN) Washington Bureau Correspondent John Holliman is the keynote speaker for the 42nd Annual Green Eyeshade Awards Banquet that starts at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 1992, in the Atlanta Airport Marriott Hotel, it was announced today.
The Atlanta Chapter of The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) sponsors the banquet and the 11-state, all media, excellence in journalism awards program.
Holliman, one of the trio of CNN reporters in Baghdad as the allied air attacks first started during the Persian Gulf War, is a 1976 Peabody Award winner and a University of Georgia journalism graduate.
Holliman was one of the key CNN reporters covering the bloody 1989 suppression of Chinese student demonstrators in Beijing's Tiananmen Square.
Since his high school years, beginning in 1962, Holliman worked at a number of Georgia radio stations, including WGAU and WRFC in Athens and at WSB Radio here in Atlanta.
In 1974 Holliman joined The Associated Press Radio Network in Washington. He left there early in 1980 to become CNN's very first Washington Bureau correspondent. Holliman has covered the White House, served as chief daytime Washington news anchor for CNN, reported on NASA and covered a host of other government agencies.
The highlight of the banquet here is the announcement of winners in each of the 26 Green Eyeshade Awards categories. The entry judged "best of show" from among these 26 wins a $1,000 cash prize. Category winners and finalists receive either engraved plaques or certificates, respectively.
Jan. 6, 1992, is the deadline for entries in the Green Eyeshade. All entries must be submitted on an official contest entry form and be at the Atlanta SPJ Chapter's office before midnight that Monday.
