JOHN F. JOHNSON ELECTED CHAIRMAN OF AMROP INTERNATIONAL, WORLD'S SIXTH LARGEST EXECUTIVE SEARCH FIRM

CLEVELAND, Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- John F. Johnson, president of Lamalie Amrop International, has been elected chairman of Amrop International effective January 1.
Founded in 1977 and incorporated in Paris, Amrop is the sixth largest and fastest-growing executive search firm in the world. It has 54 offices in 32 countries, with more than 160 partners conducting searches around the globe.
Johnson, who is based in Cleveland, is the first American to hold the Amrop chairmanship. He succeeds Gianni Dell'Orto of Milan, Italy, who just completed a two-year term. As Amrop's chairman, Johnson will continue his role as president of Lamalie Amrop International, the firm's United States partner, conducting senior-level search assignments for major corporations in the United States and abroad.
"Amrop's strength lies in the knowledge and quality of our local partners combined with the communications and client management skills at both ends of a global assignment," says Johnson. "Our strategy will be to continue to attract strong local firms which have in-depth knowledge of their national markets and have worked for global corporations.
"We recently conducted a study with Harvard University regarding the development of international executives," adds Johnson. "According to almost three of four participants, international development is critically important to a corporation's success; yet less than half of the executives surveyed felt that their companies were successful in filling management positions in foreign countries. As business becomes increasingly global, Amrop's local-area strengths, coupled with its worldwide capabilities, will help companies overcome this anomaly so that they can find the best people available -- be they expatriates or local nationals."
Johnson, 51, joined Lamalie Amrop International in 1976 and was named managing director of the Cleveland office in 1978. He became executive vice president in 1981 and president in 1984. The title of chief executive officer was added in 1987.
From 1991 to 1993, Johnson served as chairman of Amrop International's Americas Region. Prior to joining Lamalie Amrop International, Johnson held senior human resources positions with General Electric Company and Ford Motor Company.
He has broad experience in finding chief executive officers, presidents, senior line and staff executives, and members of boards of directors. As a recognized leader in general management and human resources search, Johnson was named one of the top executive search consultants in the U.S. in the recent book, "The Career Makers." Selections were made by corporate executives as well as executive search peers.
Johnson has written numerous articles for national business publications and speaks frequently on executive search issues.
