 and employers has opened in Palmdale.

The South Valley WorkSource Center provides job seekers with access to job leads, computers, fax machines, phones, copy machines and job training.

``The WorkSource Center in Palmdale is a wonderful addition to our growing community,'' Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford said. ``Having a center with so many services will ease the stress while job searching.''

The center, at 1817 E. Avenue Q, Suite A-12, is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Through a network of outside partners, the center is designed to reduce unemployment and underemployment un·der·em·ployed

1. Employed only part-time when one needs and desires full-time employment.

2. Inadequately employed, especially employed at a low-paying job that requires less skill or training than one possesses.
 by linking job applicants to appropriate careers, providing training in relevant skills and establishing a resource center where people can find new employment opportunities.

The no-cost services are provided to employers and job seekers through the federal Workforce Investment Act.

Business services members can meet with job candidates at the center and pre-qualify individuals before they apply with their company; schedule applicant interviews at the center or at their business; use the center's business room, which is equipped with a fax and computer set up for meetings and interviews; use its classrooms for training; host company orientation meetings for job candidates and/or new hires; and recruit qualified applicants.

There is no fee for businesses.

The city hired Goodwill Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. A residential, industrial, and commercial city in the San Gabriel Valley, El Monte manufactures furniture, electronic equipment, semiconductors, , in addition to a dozen Career Resource Centers.

``Goodwill's core mission is to help people find jobs,'' said Doug Barr, Goodwill's president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. . ``By opening up centers such as this, we increase the population we help beyond people with disabilities and vocational disadvantages as well as strengthen Southern California's economy.''

An official grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the center is slated for 11 a.m. Nov. 14 with members of the Palmdale City Council and Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich Michael Dennis Antonovich (born 1939 in Los Angeles, California) is a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors representing the Fifth District, which covers northern Los Angeles County, the Antelope, Santa Clarita, Pasadena, and parts of the San Fernando and San .
