JMR Announces CMD-compatible ``Plug & Play'' RAID-Ready Disk Drive Enclosures; The Fortra RAID Enclosure Accepts CMD's LVD ORD-5640 RAID Controller.CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 17, 1999-- JMR Electronics Inc.(www.jmr.com), a designer and manufacturer of powered subsystem and mass storage enclosures, Thursday announced the availability of "plug and play" RAID-ready disk drive enclosures that are fully compatible with the latest product from CMD CMD cerebromacular degeneration. Technology Inc. (www.cmd.com). The "Fortra FR10" and "Fortra FT10" 10-disk drive, high-availability RAID subsystem enclosures provide: redundant power and cooling, a SAF-TE SAF-TE SCSI Access Fault-Tolerant Enclosure processor and interface for environmental monitoring; 10 hot-swappable 1.6" disk drive canisters; and controller canisters with LEDs located on the back of the canisters. The CMD/Fortra combination is designed for up to two (LVD to LVD) hot-pluggable CMD ORD-5640 RAID controllers, operating as a redundant active/active fail-over pair. Two available controller configurations include dual host and dual disk channels, or single host and three disk channels. Featuring more storage in less volume than other popular RAID enclosures, "Fortra" began production shipments in March of this year as a JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks) A group of hard disks in a computer that are not set up as any type of RAID configuration. They are just a bunch of disks. JBOD - Just a Bunch Of Disks product, or as a RAID product if used with a host-based controller. JMR has simplified and accelerated integration time for system integrators, VARs and OEMs by creating a "plug & play" enclosure with an absolute minimum number of points of failure. Fortra enclosures have no internal cabling in the data or power buses. The RAID controller plugs into a custom riser card (provided with the Fortra) which interfaces with JMR's main I/O or "personality" card, a single-board interface between the drive backplane and the host computer or storage expansion unit. "The Fortra enclosure with our LVD SCSI-to-SCSI ORD-5640 RAID controller has been subjected to extensive Design Assurance testing in our lab, and has come through with flying colors," said Roger J. Klein, CMD vice president of marketing. "The features and complementary nature of the two products result in a strong enterprise-class storage solution for the market. It will appeal to OEMs and integrators alike."
