JINGLE BELL JOG TO RUN SATURDAY IN PALMDALE.

Byline: GIDEON RUBIN Special to the Daily News

PALMDALE -- Much has changed since High Desert Runners club first started its annual holiday Jingle Bell Jog in 1997 as a members-only event that attracted little fanfare.

Since the group opened the event to the public in 2000, the numbers have swelled from about 15 in its inaugural year to more than 160 the past two years.

But the spirit of the event hasn't changed much.

``It's a very low-key event,'' run organizer Alan Brown

 said.

The runners club holds its annual race Saturday at Marie Kerr Park in Palmdale.

The 5K run/walk starts at 9a.m., and it will be followed by a 1K Elf elf, in Germanic mythology, a type of fairy. Usually represented as tiny people, elves are said to dwell in forests, in the sea, and in the air. Although they can be friendly to man, they are more frequently vengeful and mischievous.  Run for children up to age 10.

The runners club took over a similar holiday race previously run by the city of Lancaster The City of Lancaster (2002 population: 133,914) is a local government district with city status in Lancashire, England. Its main town is Lancaster, from which it obtained its city status. Other towns in the district include Morecambe, Heysham, Slyne, and Carnforth. .

``It's primarily meant to be a community run,'' Brown said.

Registration for the event begins at 7:30a.m. on Saturday. The cost is $10 for the 5K, and $3 for the 1K.

Brown said the cost mostly covers the race's own expenses. He said any additional proceeds benefit the Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

``What little funds we can contribute helps even though it's just a drop in the bucket A reserved amount of memory that holds a single item or multiple items of data. Bucket is somewhat synonymous to "buffer," although buffers are usually memory locations for incoming data records, while buckets tend to be smaller holding areas for calculations. The 5K run will feature runners ages 12 to 70 and older. The men's and women's overall champions will receive awards crafted from ceramic This article is about ceramic materials. For the fine art, see Ceramic art.

, and the winners in various age groups will win medals with seasonal motifs.

Medals will be awarded to the top three placers in the 1K run, and ribbons will be awarded to all who participate in the event.

The 5K, or 3.2-mile, course is mostly flat. About two-thirds of the course will held on park property.
