PHILADELPHIA -- Thanks to a new program, first time, low-income homeowners in four Philadelphia neighborhoods can learn basic home repair and maintenance skills for FREE. Home Maintenance and Repair, a partnership between JEVS' Orleans Technical Institute/Northeast Campus and four Philadelphia community development corporations: People's Emergency Center Community Development Corporation, Project Home, Asociacion De Puertorriquenos En Marcha, and the Frankford Community Development Corporation, is now enrolling new homeowners from targeted communities.

During the 12-session program offered on Saturdays, homeowners will learn many skills needed to properly and safely maintain their homes. Training includes sessions in plumbing, seasonal maintenance, basic electricity, repairing sheet rock, painting, paperhanging, tiling and flooring, basic carpentry, and other home care skills. The program also provides textbooks and tools for the participants as well as transportation and childcare reimbursement.
