JETHAWKS NOTEBOOK: QUENTIN SHOWS ELBOW IS BETTER.

With the JetHawks leading by four runs in the bottom of the ninth and runners at first and second, Quentin fielded a Brian Lentz flair to shallow right field on one bounce and then fired to third baseman third baseman

The play helped keep Inland Empire from getting the tying run to the plate with one out.

``My elbow is starting to feel OK,'' Quentin said. ``I have good days and bad days, but on a good day nobody should be running on me.

``I was glad I could help the team.''

Quentin isn't sure if he would have been capable of making as strong and accurate a throw in the first week of the season.

``Who knows, maybe I could have made that throw (then),'' Quentin said. ``But it's good to actually do it.''

--Hit by pitch: In addition to going 2 for 4 in Monday's game, Quentin was hit by a pitch for a stunning 10th time this season.

Quentin has long been prone to being hit by pitches. He set a collegiate record at Stanford, getting hit by five pitches in one game.

Monday's beaning was painful, even by his standards. Quentin was hit on his left elbow by a Felix Hernandez fastball. Hernandez, one of baseball's top pitching prospects, throws in the mid to upper 90 mph range.

The beaning left a lemon-sized welt welt

on his elbow, and stitches of the ball left an imprint still visible after the game.

``He kind of got me in between the bone and the muscle and those hurt a little more,'' Quentin said.

He already has been hit by more pitches than several entire leagues and is on pace to get hit 77 times this season, which would obliterate o·blit·er·ate

Hernandez hit three JetHawks batters. Both benches were warned after he hit JetHawks outfielder Conor Jackson in the top of the third.

Hernandez also hit Jamie D'Antona with a breaking ball two innings later but was not ejected.

--``No hard feelings'': Jackson's beaning was apparently in response to a violent collision at home plate with Inland Empire catcher Rene Rivera in the first inning. Rivera held on to the ball but later left the game.

``If you take out one of their players they're going to try to take you out,'' Jackson said. ``There's no hard feelings. It's just part of the game.''
