JETHAWKS NOTEBOOK: EXHIBITION GAMES START.

Byline: Chris Cocoles Daily News Staff Writer

Let the games begin. The Seattle Mariners' minor-leaguers will get their first look at someone other than themselves beginning Sunday in the first of 13 exhibition games.

The JetHawks' workout group plays the Angels' Lake Elsinore squad on Sunday at the Peoria Sports Complex Peoria Sports Complex is a baseball field located in Peoria, Arizona. The stadium was built in 1994 and holds 12,882 people. It is one of three facilities to host Arizona Fall League games.  following today's intrasquad game against the Single-A Wisconsin group.

``We're very excited to play somebody different instead of seeing those blue jerseys all over the place,'' said Jermaine Clark Jermaine Clark (Born September 29, 1976 in Berkeley, CA) is a former Major League Baseball player who debuted on April 3, 2001 with the Detroit Tigers. In his career he also played with the Texas Rangers, San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds, and Oakland Athletics. , the probable starting second baseman second baseman

``It will be good for us to see some live pitching again. A lot of us hit off live pitching in the offseason but some of the guys haven't. This will be good to prepare us for the season.''

Clark predicts the strenuous workouts he and his teammates have undergone the past two weeks will benefit them later. The 22-year-old Vacaville resident boasts the Mariners' spring-training routine is among the roughest.

Major-leaguers in the minors: Jeff Farnsworth, who had a brief stint with the JetHawks in 1997, will start the team's intrasquad game this morning, Garner said.

When the Lancaster group plays Lake Elsinore on Sunday and the Chicago Cubs' Daytona team on Monday in Mesa, Mariners veteran major-leaguers Jeff Fassero

Spokane pride: Former JetHawks' outfielder Matt Sachse, a Spokane, Wash., native, sat down in his hotel room Thursday to watch his hometown school Gonzaga play Florida in an NCAA Tournament NCAA Tournament can mean:

    Gonzaga defeated the Gators 73-72 on a last-second tip-in.

``It was killing me,'' Sachse said. ``Here's a game that's being played in this city and I end up getting Maryland-St. John's. I was going crazy not being able to watch it.''

Father's day: Greg Connors, who spent parts of the past two seasons with the JetHawks, will get a shot with the big club today when the Mariners meet the Oakland A's in a pair of split-squad games.

Connors' dad Jim, visiting Arizona from the family's Smithtown, N.Y., home, has the video camera ready to document any action the versatile catcher/infielder/outfielder gets in the major-league exhibition game.

``I am going to charge the (camera) battery tonight just to make sure,'' Jim Connors said.

Greg Connors might begin the season on the JetHawks roster, but the elder Connors is rooting for an Eastern League assignment in New Haven, Conn., Seattle's new Double-A location.

Injury bug: A trio of 1998 JetHawks pitchers have been knocked out for the season.

Left-handers Julio Ayala and Jason Bond, who combined for 17 wins and two shutouts in the always hitter-friendly California League, have arm injuries.

Reliever Allan Westfall blew out his knee preparing for spring training and will also undergo season-ending surgery.
