JENNIFER DEAD; Baby dies in parents' arms after 11-day fight.

GORDON Brown's baby girl lost her fight for life yesterday.

Jennifer Jane, just 11 days old, died in her parents' arms.

The baby, born seven weeks' premature and weighing only 2lbs 4 ozs at birth, had suffered a brain haemorrhage which left her clinging to life.

However, her condition rapidly deteriorated at the specialist care unit at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary Royal Infirmary may refer to:

Shortly after 7pm last night, a hospital spokesman said: "At 5.20pm today, Jennifer Jane died peacefully in her parents' arms."

Her ashen-faced mother and father had already been driven away from the hospital for their home in North Queensferry Coordinates:

They arrived home just minutes before the official announcement was made.

 and his wife Cherie were told the sad news as they visited Afghanistan.

Members of the Downing Street delegation were in tears as they heard.

The baby was christened on Sunday in a moving, private service at her bedside.

She was born with intra-uterine growth restriction, which left her stricken with an abnormal heartrate.

The baby was placed in an incubator and received oxygen therapy at the Forth Park Hospital in Kirkcaldy, Fife.

 and was being fed with an intravenousdrip. The 50-year-old Chancellor's delight at becoming a father was clear as he left hospital with Sarah, 37, on Thursday.

She managed a brave smile but looked upset at leaving her daughter behind on an incubator.

Child experts said she would have experienced an emotional wrench at the parting. Then, in just 24 hours, their lives were turned upside down.

Jennifer was stable in hospital when a routine ultrasound scan gave cause for concern at the weekend.

She was rushed to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where she was kept in overnight for as eries of urgent tests.

It was then medics confirmed she had suffered a brain haemorrhage.

The Chancellor and his wife kept a bedside vigil to be with their tiny daughter until the end.

Yesterday morning, Sarah's mother Pauline and stepfather Patrick Vaughan arrived at the hospital with members of the family to spend time with their granddaughter.

After an hour with the youngster, they left visibly distressed.

Patrick in particular, looked close to tears as he gripped his wife's shoulder to provide comfort.

Tony Blair and his wife Cherie, on an official visit to the Indiansub- continent, kept in close touch with developments throughout the day.

He added:"Our thoughts are with Gordon and Sarah."

"We hope they and their families can now be given the time and peace they need to grieve in private."
