The city is a leading producer of Japan's electrical equipment. , and JR East will launch a color electronic paper display service on a trial basis on December December: see month.  14.

In the trial, electronic paper displays developed by Hitachi will be exhibited in JR East trains to showcase still image ads from 30 sponsors. The trial will determine whether or not e-paper displays will be valid as an advertising medium and what types of ad content will be appropriate for it.

The flat display uses Hitachi's proprietary e-paper technology that can show still images for a long period of time without power distribution, while content can be remotely rewritten with wireless equipment.
