JEFFRA WANTS CITY LAWN LAW.

Byline: Jim Skeen Staff Writer

LANCASTER - Like its neighbor of Palmdale, Lancaster should enact a lawn-maintenance ordinance A law, statute, or regulation enacted by a Municipal Corporation.

An ordinance is a law passed by a municipal government. A municipality, such as a city, town, village, or borough, is a political subdivision of a state within which a municipal corporation has been
to protect the community's appearance and property values, City Councilman Jim Jeffra says.

Jeffra said he wants to see an ordinance with enforcement ``teeth'' in it to get people to maintain tidy lawns. Jeffra said the ordinance shouldn't force people to pay for landscaping but should ensure that homeowners make an honest

effort to keep up the lawn.

Jeffra will bring up the topic at the council meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 44933 Fern Ave.

``If people are going to buy a house, they ought to be able to maintain it,'' Jeffra said. ``They should be able to put a rake in rake in

Jeffra said he raised the issue after driving around the city and seeing homes with lawns in sad condition, including one with mounds of dirt in it and others with cars and trash in the yards.

Jeffra said he has also been approached by homeowners complaining of the poor condition of their neighbors' yards.

Under Palmdale's ordinance, residents were given 18 months to install front lawns and irrigation irrigation, in agriculture, artificial watering of the land. City officials said they will not go searching for unkempt lawns but will enforce the ordinance if a complaint is lodged.
