JCPenney Recognizes Chairman's Award Winners; Top-performing Managers Earn Company's Highest Honor.

PLANO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 18, 2003

JCPenney Chairman and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. , Allen Questrom, will officially recognize and honor 254 associates with the Chairman's Award, the Company's highest honor presented annually for managerial excellence, at an awards banquet in Dallas, TX on April 25.

"This is an opportunity to recognize our associates who are contributing greatly to our turnaround efforts," said Questrom. "Thanks to their leadership, vision and dedication, JCPenney is staying the course to provide customers with the fashion, quality and value that will drive our success."

The annual award is presented to the top-performing Store, District and Regional Managers who achieve their total sales and profit goals. Only the top 15% of all stores can qualify as Chairman's Award winners. Retail/Direct Buyers, Divisional and General Merchandise Managers, Catalog Merchandise Directors, Media and Internet Managers must also achieve sales and profit objectives. Only the top 15% of these positions can qualify as honorees. Corporate Product Development Directors/Managers, Apparel Design Directors/Designers and Sourcing Managers also compete for this award. Support Department associates are also recognized, having been nominated by senior executives for their contributions to overall company results.
