JC SOCCER: PIERCE SEEDED 1ST IN WOMEN'S SOCCER.

Pierce College's women's soccer team, ranked No. 1 in California, was seeded first in Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  on Thursday for the state playoffs.

The Brahmas (21-1-1), seeking to end Cypress' and Long Beach City's hold on the state title, will play host to Chaffey (12-7-1) on Saturday at 2 p.m. in a first-round game.

Moorpark and College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  also are in the 16-team field, and Mission is playing in the 12-team men's bracket.

Pierce is led by Western State Conference Player of the Year Elia Petrosian, a Montclair Prep of Panorama City product who scored 22 goals with 12 assists.

Moorpark (13-2-5) will open at second-seeded Santiago Canyon (20-0-2), and Canyons (13-6-4), which beat and tied Pierce in two meetings, will play at third-seeded Cypress (19-1-2), the defending state champion.
