JC NOTEBOOK: MOORPARK, GLENDALE MAKE FOOTBALL RANKINGS.

Byline: JUSTIN FRANK Staff Writer

When the California Community College Football Coaches Association released its rankings Wednesday, there was a familar face missing and two not-so-familar faces on the list.

The new faces came in the form of Moorpark College (No.13) and Glendale College (No.19), who each are off to 2-0 starts.

Usual powerhouse College of the Canyons, which started the season ranked second in the nation by Street & Smith's, has fallen out of the Top 25 after losses to No. 12 Grossmont and No. 14 Chaffey. The Cougars' 0-2 start is the first in the history of the program.

Former coach returns to Moopark: Former Moorpark wrestling coach Paul Keyshaw will return to the Moorpark gym on Thursday, but this time he will it will be as the head coach of Fresno City.

Keyshaw coached the Raiders for 10 years and won three state titles before taking over the Fresno City job in June.

No place like home: After two early losses, followed by three straight wins, the Pierce women's soccer team will finally have a chance to play in familar surroundings.

The Brahmas will host Moorpark on Friday.

Since 2001, Pierce's first season, Moorpark has yet to beat Pierce and both schools have formed a rivalry because many of the players belong to the same club team.

Pierce is led by Elia Petrosian, former Montclair Prep of Panorama City standout and a Div. I college prospect, who holds the career scoring record at Pierce with 28 goals.

Petrosian broke the record Saturday after scoring three times at the Victory Valley Tournament, with her last of the day coming in the final minute of play to tie the score against Cuyamaca in the championship game, which finished in a 1-1 tie.

Because the finale ended in a tie, Cuyamaca was awarded the tournament title on total points.

Back on the links: Glendale is planing to field both a men's and women's golf team next spring.

Glendale originally had a golf program, but the teams were elminated during budget cuts in the 1980s.

The Vasqeros will be looking for players and coaches for both teams.
