JBoss Adds WSRP Support to JBoss Portal; JBoss Portal 2.4 Delivers Enterprise Portal to Mass Market, Strengthens JEMS as the Open Source Platform for SOA.

ATLANTA -- JBoss(R), Inc., the Professional Open Source company, today announced JBoss Portal 2.4, which adds support for the Web Services for Remote Portlets Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP) is an OASIS-approved network protocol standard designed for communications with remote portlets. The WSRP specification defines a web-service interface for interacting with presentation-oriented web services.  (WSRP WSRP Web Services for Remote Portlets

With today's portal release and related announcements of JBoss Operations Network(TM) 1.2 and solution certification for customer applications (www.jboss.com/news), JBoss is enhancing its support for enterprise customers across the entire application lifecycle, from design and development, to testing and integration, to deployment and maintenance.

In under a year of Professional Open Source development, JBoss Portal has become a leading contender in the Java portal market. Supporting both the Java portlet A small window on a portal page. Portlet technology allows a portal page to be customized more quickly either internally by the development team or by the end user. Portlet technology can come as an adjunct to a portal server or as optional interfaces to ERP applications.  API (JSR-168) and now WSRP, JBoss Portal is an extensible portal framework that integrates dynamic Web pages, applications and content within standardized and reusable portlets. Now, instead of bundling portlets and the portal into a single application, users can deploy portlets remotely and let the portal consume portlets as needed as needed prn. See prn order.  via WSRP.

Daiwa Securities America, an equities and brokerage firm, uses JBoss Portal for its Compliance Dashboard, which monitors the company's state of compliance with securities industry regulations. Steve Dunstan, vice president of enterprise system architecture, explained: "We migrated our Compliance Dashboard to JBoss Portal because it is best positioned for our future growth. Compared to the proprietary portal we were using, JBoss Portal is extremely modular, easy to configure and much faster. Supporting standards such as WSRP is important to maintaining JBoss Portal as an enterprise-grade product reliable enough for critical applications such as ours."

Portals developed with JBoss Portal can be customized based on users, roles, security needs and administrative settings. With an integrated and secure user interface across applications, JBoss Portal makes it easier for users to leverage existing applications, thereby increasing return on investment (ROI (Return On Investment) The monetary benefits derived from having spent money on developing or revising a system. In the IT world, there are more ways to compute ROI than Carter has liver pills (and for those of you who never heard of that expression, it means a lot). ) and reducing the need for new custom application and integration development.

"In less than a year, JBoss Portal has seen its download rate accelerate. Customer adoption, backed by JBoss Subscriptions, is driving an expansion of the portal market and saving users many millions of dollars in equivalent license revenue," said Pierre Fricke, director of product management, JBoss, Inc. "By adding support for WSRP, JBoss is strengthening JBoss Portal's SOA (1) (Start Of Authority) The first record in a DNS zone file. See DNS records.

capabilities and continuing our commitment to bringing enterprise-class software to the mass market."

WSRP support in JBoss Portal 2.4 extends to both the producer, i.e., portlet containers, and the consumer, which is the system communicating with presentation-oriented Web services on behalf of users. Version 2.4 supports service description and markup interfaces and implicit cloning for both producers and consumers. In addition, version 2.4 extends support on the consumer side to standard window states and mode and the registration interface.

The move to support WSRP comes as JBoss steps up its participation in standards groups. The company announced today that it has joined OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards), the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C (World Wide Web Consortium, www.w3.org) An international industry consortium founded in 1994 by Tim Berners-Lee to develop standards for the Web. It is hosted in the U.S. by the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) at MIT (www.csail.mit.edu/index.php). ) and WS-I (Web Services Interoperability Organization, www.ws-i.org) A consortium founded by Microsoft, IBM, BEA Systems and Intel that is dedicated to the development of Web services. Its goals are to provide guidance and education, to promote interoperability and to ensure that Web services  (Web Services Interoperability The Web Services Interoperability Organization (WS-I) is an industry consortium chartered to promote interoperability amongst the stack of web services specifications. ). Membership will provide JBoss with greater visibility and the opportunity to contribute to the specification process and help ensure that the JBoss Enterprise Middleware Suite (JEMS JEMS Journal of Emergency Medical Services

Like all JEMS products, JBoss Portal is supported by a large and vibrant community that helps drive new features and quality assurance throughout the development lifecycle. The community is also enhancing the JEMS platform with related technologies such as portlets and content management systems that enable enterprises to pick and choose the extensions that make the most sense for their portal applications. A library of portlets, themes and layouts contributed by the community is available at www.portletswap.com.

JBoss Portal 2.4 will be on demonstration at JBoss' booth (#768) at JavaOne, May 16-18 in San Francisco. The company's popular JavaOne cocktail reception will take place at Terra Gallery on Wednesday, May 17.
