JBoss Adds WSRP Support to JBoss Portal; JBoss Portal 2.4 Delivers Enterprise Portal to Mass Market, Strengthens JEMS as the Open Source Platform for SOA.

ATLANTA -- JBoss(R), Inc., the Professional Open Source company, today announced JBoss Portal 2.4, which adds support for the Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP) specification, an important standard for enterprise portals and service-oriented architectures (SOAs). With today's portal release and related announcements of JBoss Operations Network(TM) 1.2 and solution certification for customer applications (www.jboss.com/news), JBoss is enhancing its support for enterprise customers across the entire application lifecycle, from design and development, to testing and integration, to deployment and maintenance.

In under a year of Professional Open Source development, JBoss Portal has become a leading contender in the Java portal market. Supporting both the Java portlet API (JSR-168) and now WSRP, JBoss Portal is an extensible portal framework that integrates dynamic Web pages, applications and content within standardized and reusable portlets. Now, instead of bundling portlets and the portal into a single application, users can deploy portlets remotely and let the portal consume portlets as needed via WSRP.

Daiwa Securities America, an equities and brokerage firm, uses JBoss Portal for its Compliance Dashboard, which monitors the company's state of compliance with securities industry regulations. Steve Dunstan, vice president of enterprise system architecture, explained: "We migrated our Compliance Dashboard to JBoss Portal because it is best positioned for our future growth. Compared to the proprietary portal we were using, JBoss Portal is extremely modular, easy to configure and much faster. Portals developed with JBoss Portal can be customized based on users, roles, security needs and administrative settings. WSRP support in JBoss Portal 2.4 extends to both the producer, i.e., portlet containers, and the consumer, which is the system communicating with presentation-oriented Web services on behalf of users. Version 2.4 supports service description and markup interfaces and implicit cloning for both producers and consumers. In addition, version 2.4 extends support on the consumer side to standard window states and mode and the registration interface.

The move to support WSRP comes as JBoss steps up its participation in standards groups. The company announced today that it has joined OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards), the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and WS-I (Web Services Interoperability). Membership will provide JBoss with greater visibility and the opportunity to contribute to the specification process and help ensure that the JBoss Enterprise Middleware Suite (JEMS(TM)) conforms to emerging standards around Web services and SOA.
