Arab International Airport Modernisation Project. The development
consists of the construction of an air terminal with a capacity of one
million passengers and 4,000 tons of cargo annually, as well as
improvements in related facilities at the airport, 40km southwest of
Alexandria. Egypt offers tourists a wide range of attractions, such as
the Pyramids, Valley of the Kings and ancient temples as well as resorts
on the Mediterranean and Red Sea coasts. About six million foreign
tourists visited the country in 2003, and their numbers are growing
annually. The tourism industry is one of Egypt's major industries
and sources of foreign currency earnings.
