) honored Ellie & Martin Lifton at its "Celebration of Life Gala", held at the Museum of Jewish Heritage The Museum of Jewish Heritage, located at 36 Battery Park Place, Manhattan (New York City, USA), was created as a living memorial to the Holocaust. The hexagonal shape and tiered roof of the building are symbolic of the six points of the Star of David and the six million Jews who : A Living Memorial to the Holocaust on June 6, 2005.

The Gala raised over $500k to support JASA's programs and services for elderly New Yorkers.

The Award was named for Henry Pearce Henry George Pearce (21 April 1886 - 27 March 1936) was an American cricketer. He was a fast bowler, who played cricket in Philadelphia during cricket's brief North American "golden age". , a founder of JASA and a "giant" in the real estate industry.

The award celebrates the recipient's commitment to philanthropy in general, to JASA in particular and helps recognize the capacity of older persons to continue to grow, create and contribute to society's well being.

JASA established the award after Mr. Pearce's passing in 1997 as a tribute to his lifetime of effort to improve the lives of elderly New Yorkers.
