JARDINE FLEMING CHINA REGION FUND REPORTS 1992 RESULTS

BALTIMORE, Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The Jardine Fleming China Region Fund, Inc. (NYSE: JFC), a closed-end investment company listed on the New York Stock Exchange, reported a 9.2 percent rise in net asset value per share for the period from its initial public offering on July 16, 1992, through Dec. 31, 1992. The fund's net asset value per share rose to US-$15.05 in the period and the fund had total net assets of US-$102.4 million, up from US-$95.1 million at the end of the third quarter.
The fund's gain was superior to other New York listed China funds and to the Hong Kong, Taiwan and CLSA China B' share indices which declined during the period. Careful buying by the fund's manager permitted it to weather the share drop in Hong Kong equity values during the late November, early December period. During the fourth quarter of 1992, the fund ranked sixth out of all Emerging Market funds' performances as measured by Lipper Analytical Services.
Martin Barrow, president of the fund, said: "We are comfortable with the investment return over the first half-year of operations. We plan to concentrate further on regional diversification over 1993 and expect progress in coming months."
Mr. Barrow added that there is currently a wide variety of investment options available, and "our focus will remain on the large number of new, China-related issues in a number of markets."
Jardine Fleming China Region Fund is advised by Jardine Fleming International Management, Inc., part of the Jardine Fleming Group which has offices in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taipei and 13 other Asia-Pacific locations. The group employs 32 investment managers in the region who manage in excess of US-$10 billion in aggregate assets for institutional and private clients worldwide.
