Over 7,800 travel professionals registered their votes online or completed printed questionnaires, which appeared in such publications as TTG Asia and TTG China. Voters nominated JAL the 'Best North Asian Airline&: the best airline based in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Macau or Hong Kong operating Asia-Pacific routes. Voters were asked to make their decision based on listed criteria, such as which airline in the region they deemed provided the best service and network; was the most agent-friendly in terms of reservations; and had the most professional sales and marketing teams in terms of innovative ideas, and servicing. In a poll of around 2,000 readers identified as frequent business travelers, JAL's business class - JAL Executive Class - received high marks across the board, in particular for the comfort of its seating, and the quality of its cabin service, cuisine and in-flight entertainment.
