JACOBS TEAMS WITH SOUTHWEST RESEARCH INSTITUTE
 FOR $28 MILLION EPA PROGRAM
PASADENA, Calif., March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE: JEC) announced today the receipt of a subcontract with Southwest Research Institute for the EPA's Region VII Environmental Collection and Analysis Program (RECAP). The value of the five-year program is estimated at $28 million.
This national pilot program provides an alternative to the existing EPA Contract Laboratory Program which contributes to the government's effort to identify and clean up hazardous waste sites, including
Superfund sites. Services include site planning, field investigations and sampling, data interpretation and reporting at hazardous or suspected hazardous waste sites in EPA's Region VII which includes Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa.
"RECAP will allow the contractor greater latitude in regard to sample collection and analysis, quality control and data reporting and will provide the flexibility to handle large numbers of samples in an ongoing sampling effort," according to Dr. Harold Brown, technical contracts manager for EPA Region VII in Kansas City, Kansas.
Southwest Research Institute and Jacobs were selected for this innovative pilot program after a rigorous process in which the team demonstrated how it would set up a sampling program using actual samples. One of the innovative approaches used by the team during the test plan was its unique use of data management techniques based on the EPA's Data Quality Objectives measures when analyzing the samples.
Jacobs' role in the project is to support Southwest Research Institute in site planning, field investigation and sampling, data interpretation and reporting. Jacobs' Kansas City office will provide all services needed. Southwest Research Institute selected Jacobs as its teaming partner due to Jacobs' continuous service on similar EPA hazardous waste projects since 1976.
