JACKSON NATIONAL LIFE RENEWS STRATEGIC TECHNOLOGY RELATIONSHIP WITH EDS
DALLAS, June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- EDS (NYSE: GME) today announced a contract renewal with Jackson National Life, based in Lansing, Mich., to provide outsourcing services projected to exceed $200 million over the course of the 10-year agreement.
"EDS services support our strategic business objective of providing outstanding service and value to our customers -- the policyholders and agents," said David A. Pasant, president and chief executive officer, JNL. "The information technology (IT) services provided by EDS since 1985 have been -- and will continue to be -- an integral part of JNLs success in the marketplace."
Under the contract, EDS will deliver systems management services to help JNL achieve its long-term business goals. Moreover, through a series of strategic enhancements, EDS will direct and continue the evolution of JNL's core system infrastructure to one with significantly expanded capabilities. JNL and EDS expect these enhancements to improve service time for JNL customers, decrease operating costs and increase job satisfaction for JNL employees.
JNL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Prudential Corp. plc, United Kingdom, provides products that include term life, interest-sensitive whole life and annuities.
EDS began its relationship with JNL seven years ago as a part of the insurer's long-term strategic business plan. Since then, JNL has rapidly expanded its presence in the insurance industry. Between 1985 and 1991, JNL's admitted assets rose from $1.6 billion to $13.6 billion; premium income increased from $547 million to $2.9 billion; insurance in force rose from $26.9 billion to $131 billion; and policies in force increased from 400,000 to 1.5 million.
"After a thorough search of appropriate solutions, JNL chose to continue its outsourcing partnership with EDS," said Ben Sims, president, EDS Commercial Insurance Division. "JNL is the first of the 25 largest U.S. life insurers to make such a significant outsourcing decision. We believe the insurance industry will increasingly take advantage of this approach to integrate IT into corporate strategy."
EDS has operations in 30 countries, employs more than 70,000 people and is the leader in applying information technology to meet the needs of businesses and governments around the globe. EDS reported revenues of $7.1 billion in 1991.
