Jack H. Cook, journalist and city planner, died last month at his home in Sylmar. He was 55.

A native of Albany, Ky., Cook was a staff writer for the Pasadena Star-News and the Los Angeles Daily News The Daily News of Los Angeles, also known as the Los Angeles Daily News, is the second largest circulating daily newspaper of Los Angeles, California. It is published by the Los Angeles Newspaper Group, which owns eight other Southern California newspapers . Eventually the Glendale bureau chief, Cook was employed by the Daily News from 1981 to 1985.

He served in the 7th Marine Regiment during the Vietnam War Vietnam War, conflict in Southeast Asia, primarily fought in South Vietnam between government forces aided by the United States and guerrilla forces aided by North Vietnam.  as a lance corporal rifleman from 1965-66.

Later, Cook attended Pasadena City College and the University of California at Berkeley (body, education) University of California at Berkeley - (UCB)

 in 1971 with a degree in English literature.

An interest in urban planning led to a career in community development departments in Pasadena and San Fernando. At the time of his death, Cook was the associate planner for the city of San Fernando.

Cook was interred Friday in his hometown next to his mother, who died five months earlier.

Never married, he is survived by his sisters, Janet Brown and Ann Riddle of Albany, Ky.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 15 in the courtyard of Pasadena City Hall Pasadena City Hall, completed in 1927, is a significant example of the City Beautiful movement of the 1920's. History
In 1923, the people of Pasadena approved a bond measure issuing $3.5 million towards the development of a civic center.
