J2 COMMUNICATIONS/NATIONAL LAMPOON REPORTS $6 MILLION AGREEMENT WITH CANADIAN FIRM FOR THREE MADE-FOR-VIDEO FILMS

LOS ANGELES, April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- J2 Communications (NASDAQ: JTWO), the diversified communications company which owns and licenses the National Lampoon name, today reported it has entered into an agreement with a Canadian production company to produce three made-for-video feature films with a total budget of $6 million.
Production is scheduled to begin on the first film, "National Lampoon's Scuba School," in May, with release to video markets planned for early 1994.
J2 Communications signed the agreement with Toronto-based Rose & Ruby Productions. Each film has been allocated a budget of $2 million, the company reported.
"This is particularly exciting in light of the enormous success of `National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon I,' which debuted as the top grossing film in the country in February," said James P. Jimirro, president and chief executive officer of J2 Communications.
Based in Los Angeles, J2 Communications acquired the National Lampoon name in late 1990. Since that time, the company has revitalized the National Lampoon franchise and selectively licenses its name to a wide range of activities in motion pictures, television, video, audio, merchandising, theater and comedy clubs.
