J.D. POWER AND ASSOCIATES: THE POWER INFORMATION NETWORK; ADP DEALER SERVICES JOINS STRATEGIC ALLIANCE

AGOURA HILLS, Calif., Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- J.D. Power and Associates announced today its association with computer systems vendor ADP Dealer Services in The Power Information Network. The Power Information Network (P.I.N.) and its key information product, PowerView, was launched in January 1993 to create information from individual automotive dealership sales transactions data much like the scanner systems used in the grocery industry. PowerView works in conjunction with the dealer's existing computer system and data. ADP Dealer Services joins Reynolds + Reynolds as part of this electronic system which integrates information about the market and allows retailers to run more productive and efficient operations.
PowerView is set up to help retailers improve profitability by giving them access to current market information. PowerView, however, utilizes a more sophisticated information highway and is used on a much broader scale than any current scanner technology. PowerView will assist retailers in determining what consumers are demanding, so that consumers will benefit as well. PowerView presents information electronically and by fax to retailers in concise reports and usable diagnosis.
"The addition of ADP Dealer Services to the PowerView team greatly enhances this program's reach, allowing thousands of dealers to benefit without any additional effort. In the past, retailers' operating results were camouflaged in composite reports and compressed into subtotal averages," commented J.D. Power III, founder and president of J.D. Power and Associates. "PowerView is able to look at customers as individuals for the dealer's benefit. In today's market, one-on-one relationships between the dealer and their customers are vital to building customer satisfaction and long-term loyalty."
As of Oct. 1, 1993, PowerView has contracted to collect sales data from over 700 retailers nationally. Member California retailers are currently receiving analyzed transaction reports. The additional retailers brought to the program by ADP will begin receiving diagnostic reports after electronic "gateway" software is completed by ADP programmers for in-dealership installation.
"We are extremely heartened by the positive reaction J.D. Power and Associates has received from retailers in response to the reports they have been provided," commented J.D. Power III. "These reports have been developed from dealers joining PowerView who are under contract to send their confidential data to J.D. Power and Associates. J.D. Power and Associates, in turn, is under contract to protect that confidential, individual dealership data, while providing reports of the combined information to help better understand a complex and fast-changing market."
The PowerView operation, developed and owned by J.D. Power and Associates, will be available to dealers using the ADP system, and it is currently available to dealers on the Reynolds + Reynolds ERA System.
A second product offering also available as part of P.I.N. is PowerGram. PowerGram is a daily report transmitted via the retailer's computer system offering industry news analysis. It is designed to help retailers better understand the implications of industry events on their dealership operations.
J.D. Power and Associates is an international marketing information firm with headquarters in Agoura Hills. The firm also has offices in Detroit; Palo Alto, Calif.; Torrance, Calif.; Westport, Conn.; and Tokyo. J.D. Power and Associates is best known for its marketing information, consulting and measurement expertise in the areas of consumer opinion and customer satisfaction. The Power Information Network, PowerView and PowerGram are Service Marks of J.D. Power and Associates.
