J.D. EDWARDS, FILENET TEAM UP TO CREATE INTEGRATED DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS: Firms Say Integration Will Enable Cost Effective Access To Any Document From Any Desktop.

J.D. Edwards & Co., the Denver, Colo., supplier of software for e- business, is joining forces with Costa Mesa, Calif.-based FileNET Corp., a provider of Web-based enterprise software, in a deal aimed at allowing J.D. Edwards' OneWorld customers to integrate with FileNET's Panagon software. The combination of J.D. Edwards enterprise business solutions and FileNET's Web-based content management tools will allow customers to improve business productivity across the entire OneWorld suite.

Built upon FileNET's Panagon software used for mission-critical applications in over 4,000 installations, the information management capabilities will allow OneWorld customers to more effectively manage customer correspondence, invoices, contracts, engineering drawings, maintenance procedures, quality and compliance documents. By replacing costly paper and microfilm with automated capture, display, storage, retrieval and management of OneWorld-linked images and documents, Panagon eliminates expensive, time-consuming manual searches and routing of original paper-based documents.

"Through FileNET's integration with J.D. Edwards we were able to end the paper chase associated with processing 700,000 invoices each year," says Jeff Slaby, administrative manager at early user Cargill, an international marketer, processor and distributor of agricultural, food, financial and industrial products. "It is this combination that is enabling Cargill to realize our global vision for finance."

According to a recent survey by IT research firm International Data Corp., 25.8 percent of companies polled already have or are implementing a document management system, and another 45.8 percent plan to implement a document management system within 24 months, which underscores a growing reliance companies have on document management systems.
