J.C. BASKETBALL: MOORPARK GETS BEATEN SOUNDLY L.A. CITY 101, MOORPARK 78.

Byline: Matthew Kredell Staff Writer

Moorpark College's high-scoring, fast-paced offense met its match Saturday.

In a game where the 35-second clock was a near formality formality, in chemistry: see chemical equilibrium; concentration. , the Raiders were thoroughly dominated 101-78 by host Los Angeles City College Los Angeles City College, known as LACC, is a public community college in the Hollywood section of Los Angeles, California. Moorpark fell 18 points below its 96-point-per-game average as the Cubs used superior size and athleticism to shove the Raiders running file right back at them.

``They were the most athletic and biggest team we've faced,'' said Keith Lawerence, who led Moorpark with 21 points. ``We came in thinking that they would be athletic like Ventura, but they were even more so.''

Things were looking up for Moorpark early as the Raiders filled the opposing gym with their own fans and took a 10-9 lead.

For once, Moorpark (25-7) could not match an opponents offensive aggression. Something had to give as Los Angeles had only allowed two opponents to score as many as 80 points this season.

``We're used to teams scoring 101 points against us,`` Moorpark coach Remy McCarthy said. ``That wasn't the problem. The problem was on offense. We couldn't hit anything.''
