J.A. Jones breaks ground on cargo facility Kennedy Airport.


J.A. Jones Construction Group, one of the area's premier construction companies for over 160 years, participated today in groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Continental Airlines Cargo Facility at John F. John Fitzgerald Kennedy (May 29, 1917–November 22, 1963), was the thirty-fifth President of the United States, serving from 1961 until his assassination in
 (JFK) International Airport. J.A. Jones is the construction manager for the project and is immediately beginning construction on a fast-track basis heading towards a Spring 2002 completion date. Continental intends to consolidate its JFK cargo operations in the new structure.

The structure will provide over 60,000 square feet of cargo area (with 16 cargo doors) and office space. In addition, there will be 23,000 SF of paved truck staging and customer parking area. The new cargo facility is being designed and constructed to utilize a Ball Mat handling system, which will reduce the number of forklifts needed and will provide less damage to freight and equipment.

There are many interesting and historic buildings among the large number of facilities.
 Airport Mail Facility. In 1999, more than 1,633,335 tons of air cargo were shipped to and from John F. Kennedy Airport.

J.A. Jones Construction Group is a leader in regional transportation projects and is playing a major role in several other challenging aviation facilities projects. At Newark International Airport, Jones recently completed the $700 million major expansion of the Global Gateway Project at Terminal C for Continental Airlines which included the interior build-out of the new 20,000 sq. ft., state-of-the-art President's Club.
