J. R. Simplot Company. (At Closing People).
J. R. Simplot Company, Boise, Idaho, selects Bill Whitacre to lead its newly expanded AgriBusiness Group. Whitacre assumed duties as president of the group in April. In this role, he replaces Larry Hlobik, who in January was named the new chief executive officer. Whitacre has served as president of the company's Turf and Horticulture horticulture [Lat. hortus=garden], science and art of gardening and of cultivating fruits, vegetables, flowers, and ornamental plants. Horticulture generally refers to small-scale gardening, and agriculture to the growing of field crops, usually on a large scale, although the distinction is not always precise (for example, market gardening could be classed either way). Group since joining Simplot in May of 2000. His tenure with the group has been a dynamic one, comprised of both internal growth and key acquisitions.
