J&L SPECIALTY PRODUCTS ANNOUNCES FIVE-YEAR CAPITAL PROGRAM

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- J&L Specialty Products Corporation today announced that its board of directors has approved a five-year capital program which will commit approximately $175-$225 million to increase the melting, casting and finishing capacities of its stainless steel production facilities.
According to Claude Kronk, president and chief executive officer, "Our expansion and improvement program began with the recently completed $10 million upgrade of the continuous caster at our Midland Plant. The total program will increase J&L's stainless steel melting and casting capacity by approximately 25 percent and its finishing capacity by more than 40 percent."
The most significant future investments to increase capacity, expand the company's product line and improve productivity, are expected to occur in 1995 and 1996, and will include the installation of a 63-inch cold rolled finishing Sendzimir mill, and a new annealing and pickling line, along with modifications of the company's melt shop facilities.
The current caster modifications, along with the new Sendzimir mill, and modifications to finishing facilities will permit the company to produce 60-inch wide stainless sheet. Management's selection of specific J&L plants which will receive certain of the new facilities will be made after completion of financial and engineering studies.
J&L Specialty Products Corporation is a leading manufacturer of flat rolled stainless steel. From its general office in Pittsburgh, J&L operates stainless steel making and finishing plants in Midland, Pa.; Louisville, Ohio; and Detroit.
