Ixia's customized Terabit Router Tester offers a complete, turnkey solution for validation of the next generation of terabit routers being deployed within the WAN backbone.

Its integrated mix of Packet Over SONET/SDH and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces makes it an ideal testing environment for the demanding high-speed Internet arena where extreme scalability is required, including ingress/egress intersections to the distributed LAN.

Housed in a 16-slot Ixia chassis, the Terabit Router Tester can be configured in a variety of ways, depending on specific user requirements. One such configuration, for example, might incorporate four of the company's single-port OC-48c SONET interface Load Modules and four OC-12c/OC-3c SONET Load Modules, which offer two ports per card, with either Multimode or Singlemode SC fiber connectors installed.

For Ethernet interfaces, the Terabit Router Tester can simultaneously include four of Ixia's 2-port GBIC Ethernet Load Module, providing hot swap for both SC Multimode and SC Singlemode, and four two-port Gigabit Ethernet Load Module with SC Multimode Fiber connector type.

In this configuration, four ports of OC-48c, eight ports of OC-12c/3c and 16 ports of Gigabit Ethernet, the Ixia Terabit Router Tester offers a remarkably powerful testing solution. All Ixia Load Modules incorporate a unique Transmit Stream Engine (TSE), which lets users define and configure independent data flows transmitted by each port.

All ports accumulate statistics in real time, including the number and rate of frames and bytes sent and received, as well as the number and rate of various types of error packets.

With daisy-chaining capability of up to 256 chassis, the Terabit Router Tester offers extreme scalability to thousands of ports, and because of Ixia's Quality of Service counters enabled for IP TOS, the Terabit Router Tester is capable of monitoring millions of flows in real time, providing realistic Internet-Scale traffic QoS metrics.

The Terabit Router Tester also supports BGP-4 and OSPF Emulation Software. When the optional BGP-4 Emulation Software is added, thousands of network prefixes can be advertised to automatically configure the routing table within a single router or within a network of routers under test. Test scripts then provide performance and reliability testing of the DUT in realistic Internet scale conditions.

Finally, with the integration of Ixia's unique Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) timing feature, the Terabit Router Tester is capable of an unparalleled traffic validation and verification capability across globally dispersed locations, providing a common GPS precise timing synchronization.
