Spirals are everywhere--twisters rush back and forth across the streets; whirlpools appear in otherwise calm ponds and streams; and factory smoke forms bizarre pinwheels. The townspeople are obsessed ob·sess v. ob·sessed, ob·sess·ing, ob·sess·es v.tr. To preoccupy the mind of excessively. v.intr. with spirals: a man contorts his body into grotesque circles; his wife cuts the skin from her fingertips and then plunges a pair of scissors scissors Cutting instrument or tool consisting of a pair of opposed metal blades that meet and cut when the handles at their ends are brought together. Modern scissors are of two types: the more usual pivoted blades have a rivet or screw connection between the cutting ends into her ears, rupturing the cochlea cochlea (kŏk`lēə): see ear. (which is spiral shaped). A girl's hair grows to a height of over 20 feet, forming curls that draw huge crowds. Shuichi lives in Kurozu-cho but goes to a high school elsewhere, so he knows something is very wrong with his town (everyone else seems blissfully unaware). Uzumaki is another fine horror manga maNga is a popular Turkish nu metal/rapcore band. Their music is mainly a fusion of alternative metal and hip hop music, with a touch of Anatolian melodies; with heavy use of turntables, invoking comparisons with modern American nu metal bands. from Junji Ito, the creator of Gyo (reviewed in this issue) and Tomie. The stories are episodic; the larger storyline has not yet revealed itself, except in cryptic hints. This graphic novel's effectiveness lies in the bizarre behavior of its characters, which is normal one minute and fueled by spiral-induced madness the next. Uzumaki contains grotesque imagery and profanity ("bitch") and is recommended for graphic novel collections where horror is popular.
