It takes time.

I agree that the rich meaning of sexuality should not be reduced to natural family planning natural family planning Biological birth control Any FP that does not rely on artificial agents–eg, OCs, 'morning-after' pill, spermicidal foam, RU-486 or devices–eg, condoms, diaphragms, IUDs to prevent conception Methods Rhythm–calendar method,  ("Stay the Course?" A hopeful or comforting prospect in the midst of difficulty.

[From the proverb "Every cloud has a silver lining".
. It took us three centuries to arrive at a relatively meaningful and acceptable understanding of the Trinity at the Council of Nicea. And while this was a foundational mystery in the everyday practice of the then-average Christian, it probably made little difference whether they understood Jesus as homousious or homoiusious. So it should be no surprise that regarding human sexuality--a far lesser mystery, though one that affects us in our flesh and blood every moment of our lives--it may take not three centuries but three millennia for us to come up with a formulation that is neither narrowly reductionist re·duc·tion·ism

I say "we" because no less an authority than Pope John Paul II Pope John Paul II (Latin: Ioannes Paulus PP. II, Italian: Giovanni Paolo II, Polish: Jan Paweł II) born Karol Józef Wojtyła   wrote in Crossing the Threshold of Hope that we are all the church and we all participate both in its teaching and learning functions. The bishops will have to keep formulating the message as they let the Spirit guide them; the rest of us will have to interpret and apply it as we let the Spirit guide us, even if it does take more millennia.
