It's fantastic finish for Shrewsbury.

Byline: Carl Setterlund

SHREWSBURY - It was the regular-season finale for third-ranked Shrewsbury High at home, and senior Christine D'Amico's three-run homer made it memorable yesterday as the Colonials steamrolled Notre Dame Academy Notre Dame Academy may refer to:

An 11-run third inning put the game far out of reach, at 13-0, as defending Division 1 state champion Shrewsbury continuously made contact to all parts of the field.

D'Amico, the offensive star, sparked the big inning with a run-scoring triple and went 3 for 5 with five RBIs. Her home run in the bottom of the sixth inning invoked the mercy rule A mercy rule, also well known by the slightly less polite term slaughter rule (or, less commonly, knockout rule and skunk rule), brings a sports event to an early end when one team has a very large and presumably insurmountable lead over the other team. , ending the game.

"I think that Christine is the best hitter in the league," Shrewsbury coach Phil Chevalier said. "She really hits the ball well out there."

Overshadowed by the Colonials' offensive display was a five-hit shutout by Shrewsbury senior ace Amanda Aditays. The Rebels couldn't do much against North Carolina-Wilmington-bound Aditays, who struck out nine in six innings INNINGS, estates. Lands gained from the sea by draining. Cunn. L. The Colonials look to be in good shape heading into the postseason. Chevalier could find just one criticism of Aditays, the winner of last year's state title game - cut down on her four walks.

Shrewsbury opened the scoring in the second inning when Andrea DiTerlizzi (2 for 3, two RBIs) had a bases-loaded single. The next batter, catcher Lindsi Panarelli (3 for 5), drove in a run with a single to center to make it 2-0, but the Rebels cut down two runners trying for extra bases to get out of the inning.

In the third inning, after D'Amico's triple, Aditays followed with a run-scoring double.

Later in the inning, a triple by designated player Gianna Padavano made it 7-0. Padavano then capped the scoring drive with an RBI single.

Mary Clare Lavallee added a hit."We split our two games against Hudson, and they are a very good team," Chevalier said. "Our other loss, it took Leominster 16 innings (to get the victory), so we've had a good year."

Both losses were by one run - 1-0 to Hudson and 2-1 to Leominster.

Shrewsbury has the momentum going its way heading into the tournament. The Colonials were coming off of a 13-1 pasting of fifth-ranked Milford High to capture the Mid-Wach A title, and a come-from-behind, 4-3 victory over top-ranked and previously undefeated Hudson.

With a legitimate ace in Aditays and an offense that's clicking on all cylinders from top to bottom, the Colonials have a good chance to repeat their 2006 run to glory. After all, they've been there before.
