It's happy days as radiothon is a big hit.VOLUNTEERS at Radio North Tees burned the midnight oil recently in a 72-hour sponsored Radiothon. The annual event has become an important part of the hospital radio station's calendar. Now in its 19th year, the event helps raise thousands of pounds to keep the equipment in the station up-to-date. TFM Radio TFM Radio is a Thornaby-on-Tees based Independent Local Radio station. Launched in June 1975 as Radio Tees, with the callsign "You've got a friend on 257" it was the first independent local radio station serving the area of Cleveland with parts of North Yorkshire and County Durham. got the fundraising off to a great start by donating a surplus studio and related broadcasting equipment together with all the woodwork and fittings. Station manager Elliot Kennedy said: "With the Radiothon, a long service award and a fantastic donation from TFM Radio, 2009 is a very special year for us. "We've been serving the patients, visitors and staff at the University Hospital of North Tees for more than 30 years and of course we've been the training ground for many presenters who cut their broadcasting teeth in hospital radio."
