It's all in the timing. As a lesbian former Army officer, I have to say that Christopher Lisotta's November 23 piece "Republicans vs. the Military" [At Issue] made very little sense. Lisotta quotes expert Tobias Barrington Wolff in suggesting that it's not the right time to bring a lawsuit lawsuit: see procedure; tort. challenging "don't ask, don't tell" but then reports that the Service-members Legal Defense Network is going to file a virtually identical lawsuit before the end of 2004. So why is it a bad time for Log Cabin log cabin or log house, style of home typical of the American pioneer on the Western frontier of the United States in the great westward expansion after 1765. It was constructed with few tools, usually an axe or an adz and an auger. to file suit but a good time for SLDN SLDN Service Members Legal Defense Network ? It's also not entirely clear to whom Wolff is referring when he admonishes Log Cabin to collaborate with "people in the field who have expertise." If he's refening to SLDN, Wolff should be advised that SLDN is not the only organization that has such expertise. There is also the highly regarded Center for the Study of Sexual Minorities in the Military at the University of California, Santa Barbara History The predecessor to UCSB, Santa Barbara State College, focused on teacher training, industrial arts, home economics, and foreign languages. Intense lobbying by an interest group in the City of Santa Barbara led by Thomas Storke and Pearl Chase persuaded the State , and my own group, American Veterans for Equal Rights, a nationwide grassroots network of GLBT GLBT Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered veterans and allies.
