Meaningful snowfall is pretty rare in El Paso El Paso (ĕl pă`sō), city (1990 pop. 515,342), seat of El Paso co., extreme W Tex., on the Rio Grande opposite Juárez, Mex.; inc. 1873. , Texas, but that didn't keep Paul Vranish, superintendent of the Tornillo Independent School District Tornillo Independent School District is a public school district based in the community of Tornillo, Texas (USA). Schools

  • Tornillo Intermediate (Grades 4-6)
, from breaking out his snowmobile to give students a thrilling first experience riding this type of vehicle.

Students from the district's elementary and middle schools squealed in joy and amazement as Vranish, a native of Minnesota, sped around the high school football field. The district's maintenance supervisor used the field's sprinkler system to provide the necessary wet conditions for the snowmobile's track.

The superintendent took advantage of a teachable teach·a·ble
