, were recent guest speakers in four classes that have been busily studying the aspects of the human body and health-related issues. The students gathered for an afternoon assembly to discuss the meaning of recreation and leisure. The students had a pretty good handle on what these words mean, interpreting their meanings as, "... something you do to have fun," "a sport, game, or hobby A hobby is a spare-time recreational pursuit. Origin of term
A hobby-horse was a wooden or wickerwork toy made to be ridden just like the real hobby. From this came the expression "to ride one's hobby-horse", meaning "to follow a favourite pastime", and in turn,

The discussion outlined the importance of recreation as a tool to achieve and maintain good physical and emotional health and demonstrated the benefits recreation has to having a sense of well being and good self-esteem. The students made the connection between "a healthy mind and a healthy body" and were encouraged to share what they believe are the benefits of recreation in their own lives. They said:

"It's how you make friends. You feel like you belong."

"Our muscles and hearts can get stronger."

"Recreation helps you fight diseases."

"You can concentrate better and feel more self-confident."

"It balances off your body weight and helps keep you healthy."

"Recreation is a good way to make you feel good about yourself."

At the end of the assembly, each student was given a "Benefits Are Endless" pin and an NRPA NRPA National Recreation and Park Association

The students not only seemed to understand the importance of recreation, they also seemed to clearly understand the old adage, "it's not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game," stressing that the point was not how good you are at a recreation activity, but whether you have fun.
