Issue brief touts success of follow-up with drinkers.


The latest issue brief published by Ensuring Solutions to Alcohol Problems describes how effective follow-up by EAPs can help cement gains made by problem drinkers problem drinker Substance abuse A person who meets 2 of the 3 criteria in the last 12 months, for alcoholics. Ensuring Solutions is an initiative designed to develop research based information and tools that can help employers, schools, communities, and policy makers reduce alcohol use and the costs associated with it and improve access to treatment for those who need it. It is based at George Washington University George Washington University, at Washington, D.C.; coeducational; chartered 1821 as Columbian College (one of the first nonsectarian colleges), opened 1822, became a university in 1873, renamed 1904.  in Washington, D.C., and supported by a grant from the Pew Charitable Trusts Pew Charitable Trusts, philanthropic foundation established (1948) by the children of Sun Oil Company founder Joseph N. Pew (1886–1963) of Philadelphia to provide funds for "general religious, charitable, scientific, literary, and educational purposes. .

The most recent issue brief, "EAP (Extensible Authentication Protocol) A protocol that acts as a framework and transport for other authentication protocols. EAP uses its own start and end messages, but then carries any number of third-party messages between the client (supplicant) and access control  Follow-up in the Workplace Boosts Alcohol Treatment Success," describes the goals of the follow-up process and cites an example of how effective follow-up activities by an internal EAP with a health care group has reduced relapses. The brief also notes that research has shown that follow-up is most effective at preventing relapse if it lasts for at least a year.

"EAP Follow-up in the Workplace" is the ninth issue brief published by Ensuring Solutions since its inception last year. The previous eight are as follows:

Ensuring Solutions also publishes primers and research reports and has developed a calculator calculator or calculating machine, device for performing numerical computations; it may be mechanical, electromechanical, or electronic. The electronic computer is also a calculator but performs other functions as well.  that shows how alcohol-related problems generate higher healthcare costs and reduce workforce productivity in 10 sectors of U.S. industry. The calculator and all publications are available free of charge on the program's Web site, www.ensuringsolutions.org.
