Israeli troops kill leader of militant group in West Bank

Palestinian militants say Israeli troops killed a leader of their group during a raid on the West Bank city of Nablus.

The Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades says Hani Al-Kabi, a leader of the group in the Balata refugee camp, was killed in the operation early Friday. He was with about a dozen militants who had fled a Palestinian jail three months ago.

Israel's army confirmed that a militant had been killed in an operation in Nablus but a spokesman could not immediately provide details.

The Israeli operation suggested an Israeli-Palestinian understanding on security in Nablus was unraveling. Israel had earlier this year agreed to the deployment of Palestinian security forces. But Israeli troops have continued to operate there almost nightly.
